A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy – Book I Read

This book was mentioned on the Tim Ferris Podcast by multiple people he interviewed and by Derek Sivers.  Tim Ferris has also discussed Stoic philosophy a good bit. I would highly recommend the book.

Stoic philosophy comes from the 3rd century BC and want often discussed by Socrates, Seneca, Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius and more.

Here are my notes and takeaways from the book.

  • What is grand goal in living?
  • What is your philosophy in life?
  • Can you explain your grand goal?
  • What is your strategy in obtaining your goal?

Another book I read The One Thing started with these same principle, you need to know what you want out of life, what is most important to you. What do you want to achieve in life so when you are on your death bed you will have the fewest regrets.  If you do not have an end to guide you, you can not live every day to its fullest.
